Paula Bowman, Ceremonialist

Giving a life cycle celebrant’s voice a home online

Paula Bowman, a certified life cycle celebrant serving Oceanside and Vancouver Island, came to us wanting a website as elegant and heartfelt as the ceremonies she creates. Paula officiates weddings, funerals, and rites of passage, and she wanted her site to do more than list services she wanted it to genuinely feel like her.

Her direction was refreshingly specific: concise, graceful, and artful, with a clear breakdown of services and costs, and above all, a real sense of who she is. Paula is known for her expressive, colourful style and her speaking voice, and she wanted both to come through the moment someone landed on her site.

A site that feels personal, not generic

Paula’s biggest concern with other celebrant websites was that they felt impersonal or left out important details like pricing. She wanted her site to stand apart by being warm, clear, and inclusive of every person and every kind of ceremony, while being thoughtful with sensitive language (choosing “celebration of life” over “funeral,” for example, where it matters).

  • Present her three core ceremony types — Marriages, Funerals, and Rites of Passage,  clearly and without clutter
  • Let her personality and creativity shine through, including her willingness to bring costume and theme into a ceremony
  • Make it easy for visitors to reach her directly
  • Reflect her certifications and training so visitors feel confident in her experience

How did we do?

A single-page design built around her three services Rather than splitting her offerings across many pages, we built Ceremonialist as a flowing one-page site with anchor navigation — Home, Marriages, Funerals, Rites of Passage, and Contact — so visitors can browse her full range of ceremonies without feeling like they’re digging through a large site.

A warm, editorial visual identity The site uses a soft, boxed layout with a full-bleed hero image, giving it a more intimate, editorial feel that matches the emotional nature of Paula’s work rather than a typical business template.

Bringing her voice into the experience Paula specifically wanted her speaking voice featured as part of the site, since it’s such a defining part of how she connects with clients — something we worked to incorporate directly into the new build.

A personal sign-off in the footer The footer features a photo of Paula alongside the site’s core navigation, keeping her presence felt on every scroll of the page rather than tucked away on a separate About page.

Other small details…

We set up a fresh WordPress install and hosting from scratch for Ceremonialist, since there was no existing site to migrate content or redirects from,  giving us a clean foundation to build exactly to Paula’s vision.

We also confirmed all form submissions were working correctly before wrapping up the project, so client inquiries reach Paula reliably from day one.
