Benson View Veterinary Hospital

A modern, welcoming site for a trusted Nanaimo animal hospital

Tammy Sinclair, co-owner and veterinary technician at Benson View Veterinary Hospital, came to us wanting a website that felt as warm and community-minded as the clinic itself. Benson View has been a trusted name in Nanaimo for years, but their site had grown into a maze of pages that made it hard for pet parents to find what they needed.

Tammy’s goals were clear: make it easy for new clients to find the clinic, spotlight the full range of services on offer, and help the practice connect with a younger generation of pet owners — all without losing the community-first, low-stress-handling approach that’s made Benson View a local favourite.

A clearer path for pet parents

Before diving into design, we mapped out exactly how visitors should move through the site. The old structure had services scattered across 19+ loosely organized pages. We worked through several sitemap options with the team before landing on a clean, grouped structure that made sense for both new and returning clients.

  • Combine the “About” and “Take a Tour” pages into one welcoming introduction
  • Give the veterinary team their own dedicated page to build trust before a first visit
  • Group every service into three clear categories: Wellness & Lifestage, Lab/Imaging & Surgery, and Medicine
  • Keep Pet Insurance, resources, and emergency links easy to find without cluttering the main menu

How did we do?

A mega-menu that shows, not just tells Rather than a long dropdown list, we built a visual services mega-menu with imagery for each category — Wellness & Life Stage, Lab/Imaging & Surgery, Medicine, and Pet Insurance & More — so visitors can scan and click straight to what they need.

Services organized around real pet life stages We restructured Wellness & Lifestage care into Puppy/Kitten, Adult, Senior, and End of Life Care, mirroring the way pet parents actually think about their pet’s needs, rather than how the clinic’s internal service list was originally organized.

A dedicated Team page Since so much of the trust in a veterinary clinic comes from the people behind it, we gave Benson View’s team a proper introduction page, separate from the general About content.

Other small details…

We carried forward key resources pet parents relied on — the Pet Health Library, Pet Health Checker, How-To Videos, and Emergency Links — while tucking them neatly under a single Resources section instead of scattering them across the main menu.

On the backend, we mapped every old URL for redirects (from /services/ to /nanaimo-vet-services/, and many more) to make sure the clinic didn’t lose any search visibility during the switch to the new structure.
